Great Russian Composers: Alexander Scriabin - $14.99 This video tells the story of Alexander Scriabin, the Russian composer and pianist who is sometimes called the first modern composer. Born in Moscow on January 6, 1872, Scriabin studied piano at the Moscow Conservatory. A promising future as a concert pianist was thwarted by an injury to his right hand. In his early twenties, he abandoned his wife and four children, and left for Switzerland with a woman who shared his passion for mystical philosophy. He devoted himself to composing; his interest in theosophical ideas, and in art as religion, were reflected in his music. In a twist of fate, Scriabin met an early death from blood poisoning from a boil on his lip. The video features beautiful location photography as a backdrop to some of Scriabin’s musical compositions. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, Rovi |
